Access Network Emulation
Does your test system supply
access network emulation functionality?
In some cases, end-to-end testing would be an overdimensioned approach. In favour of cost reduction, increased speed and volume testing and preservation of resources, BSS or access network simulation often is the testing approach of choice.
SITE enables you to emulate:
- GERAN (GSM / EDGE Radio Access Network) / (A and Gb interfaces)
- UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) / (IuCS and IuPS interfaces)
- Switch simulation (PSTN / ISDN) in fixed line networks (ISUP / SS7 protocol testing)

Use Cases:
Regression testing
Any software changes require for reliable, meaningful and quick regression tests of core network functionality. With SITE regression tests can be executed emulating GERAN, UTRAN and ISUP / SS7 protocol.
Cost-friendly testing
For pure functionality tests, core network testing can be sufficient. Examples are testing of availability of services such as WAP or VAS, or functionality tests such as VLR registration. By not involving air interfaces, costs can be reduced. Service Quality testing, on the other hand, requires the full picture from end-to-end.
Resource-friendly testing
When air interfaces get overly busy in crowded locations, occupying these valuable resources with tests surely needs to be avoided. Still abandoning test efforts is not an option either. The solution can be access network emulation by which functionality testing can be executed, providing clear test results on core network functionality.
High speed and high volume tests
When it comes to high volume tests, access network emulation allows for an increased number of parallel tests. Furthermore, test cases can be executed faster since there is no location update involved.
